Manchester United FC have suffered their joint biggest loss in the Premier League history as Tottenham beat the Red Devils with a score of 1-6. It was a day the team, the fans and the management would soon like to forget, because of the magnitude of the loss. With a red card to Anthony Martial in the first half, Tottenham ran riot against 10-men United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded a strong starting lineup, with Eric Bailly finally making it to the starting XI. The Red Devils were off to the best possible starts, as Martial was tripped in the box by Sanchez in only the first minute of the game. Bruno Fernandes quickly stepped up and scored from the penalty spot, which turned out to be the only positive for United in the entire game.
Tottenham, to the surprise of everyone, retaliated soon, but with the help of some calamitous defending for Harry Maguire. The centre-back has been poor since the restart and needs to get his act together soon. With the scores level, United attacked at tried to pin Spurs to their penalty box.
A poor pass from Maguire led to another Spurs counter-attack which ultimately resulted in a goal from Son. Soon after the goal, Anthony Martial got sent off in an incident where Eric Lamela clearly seemed to instigate the Frenchman. From there on it went from bad to worse for United as Tottenham got a third and a fourth goal soon.
At half-time, the score was 1-4 to Spurs with Manchester United down to 10 men. Solskjaer made half-time changes, where he brought on McTominay and Fred for Bruno and Matic, which clearly didn’t work out well. It is argued that the United manager could have taken Pogba off instead of Bruno, as Pogba was poor throughout the game.
In the second half, came out and scored a couple of more goals, both in which Pogba was guilty. It was surely the worst performance United fans have seen in a long time and the players were simply poor and had almost given up at half-time. Manchester United and Solskjaer need to get things right off the pitch in order to get anything right on the pitch.
