Manchester United’s young stars were the heroes in their 3-2 victory against Newcastle United at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag’s boys sealed a win in their last home game of the 2023-24 season.
The Magpies started the proceedings brightly and were dominating in the opening minutes. However, Man Utd were the first to have a sneak on goal as Martin Dubravka blocked Alejandro Garnacho’s shot
The Red Devils were leading at the interval thanks to Kobbie Mainoo’s well-taken goal. Amad Diallo’s pass was efficiently put in the net by the English midfielder as he was played onside by Trippier.
The away side suddenly started to put more pressure on United’s defence after half-time. Sofyan Amrabat survived giving away a penalty after catching Anthony Gordon and Casemiro had to make a goal-line clearance later on.

Newcastle scored the equaliser just after half-time as Jacob Murphy’s cross was converted by Gordon. Amrabat soon turned from villain to hero as he blocked a shot by Alexander Isak that was surely heading towards the back of the net.
This block turned out to be crucial as Amad Diallo then scored a spectacular goal from a counter. The African star had to wait for his chance to feature in the starting XI ahead of Antony but he made the best use of this opportunity.
Diallo scored the second goal from the edge of the box via a powerful strike. Newcastle continued to create more pressure and it appeared that more goals were coming in this game.
Gordon again came close to scoring another goal by shot wide of Onana’s far post. Ten Hag had to look at the bench for options and he chose to bring on Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish ace wasn’t featuring in the starting XI in this game but made an instant impact as soon as he came on. The youngster firmly held off a challenge from Burn and struck a strong shot past goalkeeper Dubravka.
Hall scored a second for Newcastle later on via a long-range strike but it proved to be the final goal of the game as Eddie Howe’s side couldn’t grab any points from this contest.
Ten Hag will be using this momentum to his advantage to get past Manchester City in the FA Cup finals at Wembley.
