The spotlight had all been on the Old Trafford returnee Ronaldo who made the move to United from Juventus in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s men looked the better of both teams early on in the game despite Newcastle showing sparks of attacking brilliance when going forward on David de Gea’s goal.

The hosts were rewarded for their control with Ronaldo the man to tuck in the ball from close range after the visitor’s goalie Woodman had not managed to keep hold of the ball from Mason Greenwood’s effort.

United went into the half-time break with their narrow lead intact but were in for a setback upon their return with Newcastle finding a way back into the game with a leveller from full-back Manquillo.

Ronaldo, however, carried on his dazzling showing with the 36-year-old once again giving his side the lead by scoring past Woodman after being fed by Luke Shaw.

David de Gea had to be called into action on the other end of the pitch to deny Joelinton with a flying save following which it was Bruno Fernandes who got United’s third goal of the game with a finish into the top corner of the net.

Substitute Jesse Lingard scored too with the Red Devils securing a brilliant win over a hapless Magpies outfit who could not sustain the ever-increasing pressure from the United frontline.
