Manchester United FC extended their unbeaten run of 16 games now, after thrashing Bournemouth FC at Old Trafford. The Red Devils put five past Bournemouth’s goalkeeper and put forward a solid statement of intent for other Premier League clubs to witness. Bruno, Martial, Rashford, and Greenwood were all on the score sheet as United once again put up a dominating performance.
Greenwood’s brace meant that the teenager is already at 15 goals, in only his first season at the Premier League. Martial and Rashford with their goals against Bournemouth took their overall tally to 20 goals each this season. Fernandes scored from a free-kick and assisted Greenwood, taking his tally to 10 goal contributions in nine matches in the Premier League.
The scoreline doesn’t tell the entire story though, as Bournemouth started very narrow and compact denying Pogba and Bruno space. Even the Cherries were the first to take the lead after Stanislas nutmegged Maguire and scored through the near post. His happiness was short-lived though as Greenwood, Rashford and Martial came up with three quick-fire goals.
Greenwood shot came from nowhere as Bruno passed it to Mason at the edge of the penalty box, who lashed in on goal. Minutes later, Rashford scored from the penalty spot after VAR spotted a hand-ball in the penalty area. Martial’s goal could arguably be in contention for goal of the season, as he curled in a shot to the top corner.
United led 3-2 at halftime as Eric Bailly replaced Victor Lindelof to partner Maguire at the centre of the defence. Bailly was immediately at the thick of things as he gave a penalty away, having handled the ball in the penalty box. Josh King stepped up and put away the penalty against his former side, and this was arguably Bournemouth last contribution to the match.
Mason Greenwood again stepped up to the plate and scored another screamer to give the Red Devils the two-goal advantage. Bruno Fernandes scored from the edge of the box with a free-kick, to give United a three-goal lead. This was a completely dominating performance of the Red Devils even after conceding first.
The win gave the Red Devils a chance to briefly move into the top-four, but Chelsea’s win meant United are at fifth position. Manchester United next face relegation-battling Aston Villa and will be again looking to extend their unbeaten streak.
