Dutch sensation, Memphis Depay was shipped out of Manchester United squad, last January. Ever since he left Old Trafford, his confidence grew, accuracy improved and game sense has been bettered.
Not able to express himself under the shadow of defensive manager Jose, Depay was not as successful as he is proving to be for his club and country.
A foot of gold for both Lyon and Netherlands, Depay has contributed in 41 goals out of 52 games played after decamping from United.
United still have a chance of regaining the Dutchman. The transfer included a buy-back clause for Memphis which the fans eagerly want to be activated. And to add-on to their want, Depay’s already good Panenka penalty against France in the Nations league was intensified by Sanchez penalty miss for Chile the same night.
Cool, calm and a bit cocky was Depay!
Memphis could ignite a stagnant attacking unit with his composure and world-class form. The question of the hour still stands unrooted!
Even if we sign the buy-back clause, will Depay get the power to unleash his potentials the same way he has been given in Lyon or the Netherlands? A license of confidence rarely found under Mourinho, Depay would be worth every penny provided he is given his preferred centre-forward position.
However, if United have to avoid keeping their “Why is the player not playing up to potential” pile increasing, the idea of bringing Depay back will have to be put to ice, at least for now.
