The latest reports have claimed that Manchester United have agreed on a deal with Leicester City over the transfer of Harry Maguire in an £80 million bid which would break the new world record for a most expensive defender.
It’s a no brainer that Manchester United need to secure a deal for a top-quality defender in the summer transfer window to bolster their defensive line. The Red Devils are hoping to improve on their sixth-place finish in the Premier League table.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a massive task on his hands and the Norwegian boss needs to recruit a top-class defender to stabilize his backline and bolster the rest of the squad and have targeted Leicester City star Harry Maguire as the clubs top transfer target for the summer.
United already had a £70 million bid for Maguire rejected about two weeks ago and their local neighbors Manchester City came in with a similar offer but the red half of Manchester are now willing to increase their offer for Maguire which will make him the world’s most expensive defender.
Liverpool paid £75 million to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton back in January 2018 and Manchester United are ready to break that record by paying £80 million to the Foxes for the 26-year-old Englishman.
Maguire has already hinted that he prefers a move to Manchester United over Manchester City and the center back could be the next big thing at Old Trafford. However, the only blockage for a deal to take place is that Leicester is not in any financial trouble and are desperate to tie down the defender at the club for their own success.
United are still front runners for Maguire’s signature but Solskjaer does not want to overpay for the superstar so that other clubs can take advantage of that situation with Manchester United.
