As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are looking forward to tying down Marcus Rashford to a long-term deal in order to secure his future at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils will exercise the 12-month option to extend the contract of Marcus Rashford if they are unable to reach an agreement on a long-term deal by January.
This year, Rashford has found his form again, and he recently reached the milestone of 100 goals for Manchester United. His long-term prospects are still uncertain, though, since his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
If the club so chooses, they may extend it for another 12 months, which now appears likely. Erik ten Hag wants to keep Rashford as he is an important part of his plans. The England star may start discussing a pre-contract agreement in January, at which point United would be in danger of losing him to a foreign club.
Rashford’s representatives spoke with Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year, and United is keen to minimise the possibility of the 25-year-old choosing to leave for another club.
However, it’s likely that United would only use the 12-month option as a temporary solution because they would later seek to extend his contract in 2023.
Rashford can only continue to give it his all on the field as United takes care of his immediate future. It would make sense to secure his future since he has only ever represented them at the club level in his career.
The fans would love to see Rashford play at Old Trafford for a long time.
