Manchester United among clubs keeping an eye on West Ham star Nayef Aguerd

According to the Manchester Evening News, Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd.

The Hammers may be forced to offload the Moroccan international during the forthcoming transfer window.

The team led by David Moyes is not expected to participate in any European competitions next season, barring victory in the Europa Conference League.

The London-based club is battling to avoid the drop at the moment as they linger about the relegation zone. Still, Aguerd has continued to draw admiration for some impressive performances.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are now Erik ten Hag’s go-to backline pairing United. The Red Devils wants to sign the Moroccan to strengthen their defensive depth and give the two World Cup champions some competition.

The 27-year-old moved from French team Stade Rennais to West Ham in the summer of 2022. The centre back was injured at the beginning of the season. He has become a vital member of Moyes’ team over the past few months.

As for Liverpool, they have had a terrible time during the current season. The defensive strategy of Jurgen Klopp’s team were well-known.

Yet as it is, players like Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Ibrahima Konate have fallen short. Meanwhile, United defenders Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have struggled to get game time with Varane and Martinez being their preferred alternatives.

The two have spent the majority of time on the bench ever since the Netherlands boss took over. As a result, it would not be unexpected to hear that our captain and the Swedish international will be considering their options for the coming summer.

Aguerd appears to be a respectable choice to bolster our backline in the event that one of them leaves this summer.
