According to Fichajes, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is being closely monitored by Arsenal and Manchester United.
Lazio has not yet reached an agreement about a new contract with the midfielder. This is due to the fact that the 27-year-old midfielder is hesitant to sign a contract and is thinking of leaving the Serie A club in the January transfer window.
In the summer of 2015, the 27-year-old Serbian midfielder transferred from Genk to the Serie A team in a move estimated to be worth roughly €12 million. Looking back, the sum seems like a bargain.
Since then, Milinkovic-Savic has improved to become one of the best midfielders in the world, frequently drawing admiring looks from elite clubs in Europe.
Milinkovic-Savic, known as the Sergeant by the Lazio supporters, has regularly been one of the most dangerous midfielders in Serie A during the course of his seven full seasons. The box-to-box midfielder has played more than 300 times for the Italian outfit, contributing 56 assists and 60 goals across all competitions.
The 27-year-old was the focus of intense rumours this past summer as both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain expressed interest in him.
Though a transfer never happened because Lazio was determined to keep Milinkovic-Savic and, like in the previous transfer windows, priced him out of a move by slapping a big price tag on his head, and the deal never materialised.
Since then, the 27-year-old has kept up his impressive play in Rome under Maurizio Sarri, recording two goals and five assists in his first nine appearances. While it is encouraging to see a player stick with one team, Lazio will face more challenges as his contract is slated to end in 2024.
His stock will decline in the coming months without renewal, and the European heavyweights have become aware of his position. Arsenal, PSG, and Manchester United are all keeping an eye out for an opportunity to pounce and sign the Serb.
It is hardly surprising that Manchester United is interested in Milinkovic-Savic. In fact, the Serbian has reportedly been connected with a move to Old Trafford for the previous five or six years.
It is challenging to find a spot for Milinkovic-Savic with the summer arrivals of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, despite the fact that adding a player of his calibre has the ability to strengthen every top side. Additionally, Scott McTominay has significantly improved since playing under Erik ten Hag.
It remains to be seen whether the club would prefer to go after him or look for a younger option in the market.
