The COVID-19 global pandemic has taken everyone in the world by shock and the situation in England is serious. It has affected businesses all over the world, and football is no different as fans have been denied to saw games in the stadium. It is now being reported by the Telegraph that Manchester United and Liverpool are set to join hands and make radical changes in the Premier League.
Manchester United have reportedly endured the highest losses in the coronavirus pandemic, in the entire Premier League. The proposal Manchester United and Liverpool together are trying to provide is named a ‘Project Big Picture’. This proposal suggests that the Premier League will be shortened to 18 teams and would also see the Premier League pay £250m to the EFL, to help the lower leagues come out of the losses due to the pandemic.
But this proposal also has two sides to its coin, as it would see the power in the hands of the strongest Premier League sides. It would also see the League Cup and the Community Shield scraped but will also see a £100m go to the English FA.
The proposal has been openly supported by the head of the EFL and United and Liverpool expects other big clubs to support them as well. Though the Premier League has kept mum on the subject, the proposal is unlikely to get accepted.
