According to Sky Sports Journalist Florian Plettenburg, Manchester United are still interested in signing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in January, despite Bayern Munich’s wish to secure him to a new contract.

Erik ten Hag is eager to improve his attacking options after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure at the end of November, and United are rumoured to be looking for at least one striker this month.
As Choupo-Moting’s contract expires in the summer, the Red Devils, who have been teasingly connected with a move in recent weeks, may succeed with a lower-than-market offer if they want to confirm their rumoured interest.
The Cameroonian international is still on United’s list of prospective attacking targets, but it appears that Bayern Munich is still trying to prevent him from leaving the Allianz Arena this month.
Although a meeting is scheduled for Thursday to explore the prospect of extending Choupo-Moting’s spell at Bayern, a definitive decision is not expected to be made right away. Given his strong start to the season—11 goals and three assists across all competitions—his current boss would like to see him stay with his squad.

Choupo-Moting is unwilling to remain at Bayern if he must play a supporting role the next season, which might work in United’s favour if they offer to guarantee him consistent playing time at Old Trafford.
However, a number of other teams in Europe are reportedly keeping a close eye on the striker’s status in Germany. A number of well-known names are still reportedly being considered behind closed doors, including Joao Felix and Marcus Thuram, who have both been linked with United over the past few days.
Ten Hag previously insisted that he would only move forward with signings if the opportunities were right for the club as a whole.
The financial consequences of any deal are likely to play a significant role in determining the likelihood of a January move.
