According to the Sun, Manchester United are negotiating with former English international Tom Huddleston to have him in a player-coach role for the U-21 side this season.
The 35-year-old former English midfielder is an unsigned free agent and, therefore, it would be easier for United to search for a move.
The midfielder played for Hull City last season but was released when his contract ran out. He is set to assume the position of player-manager for the U-21 team and serve as the group’s leader.
The 35-year-old played for Tottenham Hotspur for the majority of his career. During his stint at Old Hart Lane, the midfielder made 207 appearances for the Lilywhites, contributing 31 assists and scoring 16 goals across all competitions.
Huddleston has had a fairly successful career thus far. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play at centre-back and centre-midfield. For the teams he has played for, he has been more than useful.
With a career total of 580 games, it is safe to assume that Huddleston has a decent amount of experience. For a defensive midfielder, his total of 50 assists and 27 goals in all competitions is quite impressive.
He will have a positive impact on the team’s younger players and be able to mentor them as they strive to improve their game thanks to his expertise and the fact that he has played top-flight football for such a long time.
It would be quite intriguing if Tom Huddleston joined Manchester United. There are many advantages to this change, and it may be one that has a significant positive impact on the younger players.
