Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has held internal talks with long-term target Frenkie de Jong

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has held internal discussions over a second offer for Frenkie de Jong.

The Red Devils were interested in signing the Barcelona star last summer, but he ultimately decided to stay at the Nou Camp. A future transfer to the Premier League cannot be ruled out, despite the fact that he has recovered from a challenging start to the season to excel for Xavi.

United invested everything in a deal for him, as they were encouraged by De Jong’s good chemistry with Ten Hag.

The midfielder, who was due millions in deferred salaries, refused to leave Barcelona at the moment, so the Red Devils went with Casemiro. The former Real Madrid striker Casemiro has been a tremendous signing at United and scored an amazing brace against Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday.

But United is still aware that, in order to restore Old Trafford to its former grandeur, they need additional choices in the middle of the park. As per reports, United has now discussed the possibility of signing De Jong at the end of the season.

There are two important things that give the Red Devils a chance to sign the 25-year-old this time. One is that they continue to believe Ten Hag’s good relationship with De Jong will be advantageous to them.

The pair previously worked at Ajax, where they helped the Dutch team overcome all odds to go to the Champions League semifinals in 2019.

United also thinks De Jong might like to move to Old Trafford. He admitted to Ten Hag back in the summer that if it weren’t for the matter of his Barcelona contract, he would have moved to United.

It will be intriguing to see how they go through this deal as United prepares to pursue the Dutch international once more. However, at this time, De Jong isn’t the only player on their list of potential summer transfer targets.

Ten Hag would also advise United to make a bid for Jude Bellingham, despite the fact that several elite clubs are also interested in the midfielder.
