According to The Telegraph, Manchester United is confident about his ability to convince Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount to join the club, ahead of competition from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The English star will enter the final year of his contract with Chelsea in July and has shown no intention of negotiating a new deal with the club.
As a result, he is expected to be sold during the upcoming transfer window, and Ten Hag believes he can successfully lure him to Old Trafford.
While Mount has not made a final decision regarding his next club, The Telegraph states that the Red Devils are actively working towards signing him ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool.
Ten Hag is specifically interested in adding a dynamic central midfielder to his squad, and Mount is currently his top target. Since making his debut for Chelsea four years ago, the 24-year-old has consistently been one of the club’s standout performers.
He continues to attract interest from top clubs despite a somewhat disappointing 2022/23 season, during which the midfielder contributed only nine goals from 35 games.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both reportedly vying for Mount’s signature, but United manager Ten Hag is determined to lure him with the promise of consistent playing time at Old Trafford.
While Mount has primarily operated in the number 10 position, he has also displayed versatility by performing in the number eight role when needed. This could potentially become his permanent position at United.
Considering Bruno Fernandes’ status as an established starter in the attacking midfield role for United, Ten Hag is unlikely to displace him to accommodate Mount.
Chelsea is said to be seeking £60 million for their academy graduate, but United should attempt to negotiate the fee down to £40 million, which would be a favourable deal for the club.
