Manchester United confirm agreement with Fenerbahce for Fred

Manchester United have officially announced (via Twitter handle) that they have come to terms with Turkish club Fenerbahce for the transfer of midfielder Fred.

The speculation surrounding the future of the Brazilian international had been prominent in recent weeks. It was evident early in the transfer window that Fred would be departing from Old Trafford this season.

Fred was absent from the Red Devils’ preseason tour in the United States and also did not participate in the friendly matches against Lens and Athletic Bilbao last weekend.

Initially, Galatasaray appeared to have an advantageous position in securing the signing of the South American player. However, Fenerbahce have now become the frontrunner in this race.

On Friday evening, Man United officially announced that they had reached an agreement with Fenerbahce for his transfer.

The completion of the move is contingent upon finalizing personal terms and the player successfully undergoing a medical examination.

Fred will be departing Old Trafford after having represented the club in 213 matches across various competitions since his transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018. During this period, he scored 14 goals and provided 19 assists.

Throughout the 2022-23 season, the midfielder played a significant role under Erik ten Hag, featuring in 56 matches across all competitions. However, he faced challenges in securing consistent starting opportunities.

Alongside Fred, Donny van de Beek is also expected to leave the club and is currently linked to a move to Real Sociedad.

Additionally, there are ongoing speculations connecting Scott McTominay to a transfer to West Ham United.
