As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are considering making a bid for Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Daichi Kamada before the transfer market closes on Tuesday.
This month, the Red Devils have only added two loan signings, Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst, but they could add one more before the deadline.
A new forward was on the cards last week, but given Christian Eriksen’s ankle injury, the attention may now be on a midfielder. If so, United will be considering the possibility of signing Kamada, a top player in the Bundesliga who is currently in good form.
The Japanese ace has been a revelation for Frankfurt this season. In 25 games, he has scored 12 goals and provided five assists. The 26-year-old has spent the majority of this season playing the number eight position, but he has also played on the left wing and at the number 10 position.
His contract is up at the end of the current season, so United has a chance to snap him up for a bargain price.
Kamada is presently worth £26 million, and United might tempt Frankfurt to let him leave with a bid of about £15 million. A loan deal with a buy-back clause could be the other option.
Kamada would be a premier addition, in our opinion. He has experience in the top division and has been contributing goals to his team. He would provide Bruno Fernandes with solid protection. However, it remains to be seen whether United can persuade Frankfurt to accept a deal. The holders of the Europa League are now only two points adrift of the Bundesliga’s top four.
They might decide against selling one of their most valuable assets this season given that Champions League qualification through the league is a realistic possibility.
