According to the Express, Manchester United may use the summer transfer window to bring Sergio Romero back to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag may sign Romero for United in order to provide David de Gea and Tom Heaton with suitable competition.
The 35-year-old moved from Sampdoria to United in 2015 and made 61 appearances in all competitions. However the 96-cap Argentina international goalkeeper was mostly benched in favor of De Gea. He gave up just 27 goals while maintaining 39 clean sheets.
Romero, regrettably, was never able to unseat De Gea as United’s No.1 goalkeeper.
He signed a one-year contract with Venezia last summer but would be free to make a move now. It appears that a return to the Premier League may be imminent.
The move does make sense after Dean Henderson joined Nottingham Forest after leaving Old Trafford this summer.
Matej Kovar is another young academy goalkeeper in our ranks, although many believe he is too young to compete with De Gea and Heaton.
It would be a smart decision to bring the South American back to Manchester. As we all know that there are three reliable goalkeepers at every elite club. Romero is obviously well-versed with the Premier League so he wouldn’t require any time to adjust to it.
The Argentinian is still performing at his leak despite his advanced age a dnd he still has three to four years at the helm.
Romero joining United this summer may come as a surprise to some, but we don’t think it would be a bad move at all, especially since he would be a free agent.
