Manchester United could sanction a loan exit for wantaway star Cristiano Ronaldo who is desperate to leave Old Trafford this summer before the transfer window slams shut.
It is understood that United want the 37-year-old superstar to return to the club next summer with the hopes of United clinching a Champions League berth by then as the new boss Eric ten Hag seeks to reinforce his side.
Ronaldo has made it clear that he wants to play in Europe’s elite club competition and is keen to call it quits ahead of the start of the next season but his departure could turn out to be only a season-loan stint, according to a report from The Daily Mirror.
United’s recent talks with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes have seemingly come to the conclusion that Ronaldo will trigger a one-year-option clause to extend his terms with the Red Devils camp before heading out on a loan transfer.
Atletico Madrid remain interested in moving in for the Portuguese dangerman but the Spanish capital outfit’s concerns on the financial front have made them hold out on entering into negotiations with United for signing Ronaldo.
