Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that it will be rather impossible for his star midfielder Christian Eriksen to leave North London anytime soon.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was looking for a few more signings in the summer transfer window despite luring in a few big-money recruits in the form of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan Bissaka as well as Daniel James. But the Norwegian was also keen on swooping in for a world-class midfielder that could partner World Cup-winning Frenchman Paul Pogba in the center of the pitch.
United was linked with Christian Eriksen but the Premier League transfer window close nearly a month ago. However, Solskjaer was still eyeing a move for the Danish star at Old Trafford but Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Eriksen will remain at North London.
Eriksen got Tottenham’s opening goal against Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday and it was also his 50th goal in the Premier League. And although the game ended 2-2 with both sides sharing a point each Pochettino was quick to comment on Eriksen’s display confirming that he is not going anywhere anytime soon.
The 47-year-old Argentine spoke to BBC and singled out his midfield maestro, “The whole team had a very good performance. Eriksen had a big performance. His mind was clear that he wanted to play. It’s nearly impossible for something to happen [with a transfer tomorrow], that’s why it was clear. I think it was a great game for both sides. I think we did very well and we were very solid and created a lot of chances. In the first half, it was a great 45 minutes and I was a little bit ashamed to concede before half time. We have massive quality and from tomorrow [when the transfer window shuts] we will all be on the same page. With Christian Eriksen, we have to wait but it shows it was the right decision to play him. He showed great performance and helped the team to get a point here.”
