Manchester United center-back Victor Lindelof has admitted that he misses former Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho who left the club last year following a run of poor results. The 56-year-old Portuguese tactician was unable to turn the ship around at Old Trafford and his dire football wasn’t something that the United faithful were too keen watching.
Lindelof arrived at the Theatre of Dreams during Mourinho’s second season in charge of Manchester United but the Swedish defender came under heavy criticism initially for his lackluster outings. The 25-year-old defender then drastically improved his performances after his early struggles in England, making 45 appearances under Mourinho.
But United was unable to keep Mourinho and the ‘Special One’ was replaced by Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm. Although Mourinho left behind some sour memories for the fans, Victor Lindelof still admits that he misses the man that got him at Manchester United.
While speaking to reporters after winning his second Swedish Golden Ball, Lindelof had only praise for Mourinho and went on to claim that the Portuguese manager is one of the best coaches in the world, “He is, after all, one of the world’s best coaches and he is supposed to have a job at one of the biggest clubs. I miss him in football. He’s a great coach and a great person, whom I owe a great deal. It was he who gave me the chance here, who brought me into everything.
The 25-year-old further added that “I have all the respect in the world for him and appreciate everything he has said and done for me, from scolding to a hug. Even if I did not agree, at the time…he has very great charisma, you had great respect for him. He’s won everything. When he says something, you listen.”
Mourinho is currently working as a pundit at Sky Sports but has been linked with taking up a job at Bayern Munich after the vacancy left by Niko Kovac.
Manchester United currently sits in 7th place on the Premier League table and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to start picking up the results if he wants the club to finish inside the top 4.
