According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will need to shell out €40 million in order to sign Benfica star Goncalo Ramos.
The 21-year-old advanced through Benfica’s youth ranks and is now an important player for the Portuguese powerhouses.
He can play as a second striker or drop deeper to play as a number 10 or as a centre forward. If United were to sign him, his adaptability would be a huge asset for the team.
The player has a fan in Erik ten Hag, who wants to bring him to Old Trafford. Given that the Red Devils lack a reliable goal scorer who can start up front week in and week out, it makes sense to go all out for the striker.
Darwin Nunez left for Liverpool in the summer, and the Portuguese sensation has filled his shoes with 12 goals and six assists in 20 games in all competitions. Ramos is currently tied for the league’s most goals in Portugal’s top division, and he will continue to develop.
The only senior strikers available for the Red Devils are Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo. The former is still dealing with injuries, whereas the latter is dreadfully out of shape.
The team might find it challenging to maintain their promising start to the season unless something drastic happens shortly. Given Ramos’s potential, a price of €40 million is acceptable. He will play for Portugal in the World Cup in Qatar, and a strong performance there will undoubtedly raise his price.
Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in the player.
