According to Manchester Evening News, Real Betis and Manchester United were set to battle it out in the Europa League round of 16 clashes.
The Red Devils advanced to the round of 16 with an inspiring 2-1 comeback victory over Barcelona at Old Trafford last night this week. Betis, who are now sixth in La Liga and four points outside of the Champions League spots, will be their next Spanish opponent.
Because of this, United doesn’t have a simple tie on their hands, but they should be confident going into the first leg after defeating the La Liga leaders.
On March 9, the Andalusian team will visit Old Trafford, and seven days later, the Red Devils will travel to Stadium Benito Villamarn for the return match.
This will be the first time both clubs have faced each other in this competition. The sole previous matchup between United and Betis took place in a most recent pre-World Cup friendly match.
Nabil Fekir scored the game-winning goal in their 1-0 loss. With numerous key players absent, it was a very different United team, and they ought to be favourites next month.
Under manager Erik ten Hag, United has had a fantastic season, and they are now the only English club still playing in all four tournaments.
They have a chance to end a six-year trophy drought when they meet Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday at Wembley. The Red Devils have already received a big help to win their first trophy under Ten Hag as the Magpies are expected to start their third-choice goalkeeper.
If they succeed this weekend, it should inspire them, even more, to work hard for further titles that come along the way.
