Manchester United expected to reignite their interest in Adrien Rabiot

According to Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United is expected to reignite their pursuit of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The Red Devils were close to securing the transfer of the French international last summer, having reached an agreement of €20 million with the Serie A club. Manager Erik ten Hag also engaged in discussions with Rabiot during that time.

Despite coming close to a transfer last year, a deal for the French midfielder to join United did not materialize due to disagreements over personal terms, specifically the midfielder’s wage demands of €10 million per year.

However, United is once again a potential destination for Rabiot, whose contract with Juventus expires at the end of June. Ten Hag is reportedly keen to complete the transfer that fell through at the final stage last summer.

Last summer, United’s interest in the midfielder came as a surprise, especially considering his underwhelming 2021/22 season at Juventus, where he managed just two assists in 45 appearances.

Some sections of United fans were unhappy with the club’s interest, and ultimately, a transfer failed to materialize due to the club’s refusal to meet Rabiot’s salary demands.

However, the situation might be different this summer. The 28-year-old had an impressive campaign with Juventus, emerging as their best player with 11 goals and six assists in 48 outings.

In Serie A, Rabiot maintained an 84 per cent pass completion rate, won two tackles, and engaged in 5.8 duels per game. In our opinion, Rabiot would be an upgrade over Fred, who is expected to leave the club this summer.

Although the Juventus star’s wage demands are still high, United might be more inclined to meet them this time since there would be no transfer fee involved. While Rabiot could receive a substantial signing-on fee, it is unlikely to exceed €10m.
