According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are eyeing a move for Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries.
The Red Devils are eager to bolster the right side of their defence in the upcoming summer transfer window as the Dutch manager only has Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot in their ranks.
United allegedly spoke with Inter about a potential transfer for the Dutchman in January, but ultimately decided to spend money on striker Wout Weghorst. The Serie A heavyweights have lined up a successor as they are ready to offload the 26-year-old for about £44 million. Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui is reportedly being targeted by Inter Milan.
The Moroccan has fallen further down the pecking order as a result of Joao Cancelo’s arrival, where he is battling for playing time. Nevertheless, Bayern might be willing to let Mazraoui leave if they make Cancelo’s loan deal permanent.
It would open the door for Dumfries. However, Chelsea is also keeping an eye on the Dutch international. The blues could be interested in using Trevoh Chalobah in a swap deal.
Dumfries has made 70 appearances since joining the Italian team from PSV in 2021 and has contributed with seven goals and ten assists. His contract will expire in 2025.
The wingback has 42 caps and is a regular for the Netherlands’ national side.
