According to Fichajes, Manchester United has made Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak their top target to take David de Gea’s spot.
Although they have the option to extend De Gea’s contract, reports suggest they are looking for potential successors. The Spaniard’s contract expires next summer.
Fichajes claims that United has spent the last few weeks focusing on the search for a new goalkeeper, with Oblak being their top priority. Odysseas Vlachodimos of Benfica, Diogo Costa of Porto, and Yann Sommer of Borussia Monchengladbach are also being targeted by the club.
De Gea has played for United more than 500 times in 11 years, posting 174 clean sheets and helping the team win the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup titles.
The Spanish star was also a member of the PFA Team of the Year from 2014 to 2018. However, considering his age, the club must sign a young goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window. De Gea’s ball distribution has been the major issue, and Ten Hag wants a keeper who can be more dependable with the ball at his feet.
Oblak’s experience will be crucial, but there are many other younger options in the market that United should keep an eye on.
