Man Utd is looking to sign Napoli’s right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo as a swap deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Right now, Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot play on the right back position, but it looks like Wan-Bissaka might not stay for long at Old Trafford.
His deal ends next June and since there’s no talk of a new one, he’s expected to leave this summer.
Wan-Bissaka moved to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace in 2019 for a big sum and soon made a name as a solid defender.
Yet, his role in attacks has been small, and questions have been raised about his fit for the current full-back role, which asks for a mix of attack and defense skills. So, the team is looking at other options that can provide more offensively while retaining a strong defensive core.
Given their money woes, United might not spend a lot on a new right-back. The cash crunch from COVID-19, high pay for players, and past buys have left the club low on funds. The team is looking for cheap but good players to add without spending too much.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo appears to be an affordable and reasonable choice in this situation. According to reports, Di Lorenzo’s representatives were contacted by United last month and the player is currently looking for a new challenge.
The 30-year-old Italian has stated his wish to leave the Serie A team this summer believing he has reached the end of his contract with Napoli. In the past five years, Di Lorenzo has turned into one of Italy’s top right-backs known for his sharp passing and firm spot on the field.
This season, he’s hit 87 percent of his passes right and has a 70 percent success rate with long throws. He makes 1.5 tackles and four recoveries in defense in each game on an average. Di Lorenzo has also contributed 10 goal involvements from 46 appearances making him effective in the attacking field.
He is a desirable option for United due to his ability to contribute to both attack and defense. Di Lorenzo’s ability to move the ball forward from the back is evident as he has made the most progressive passes in Serie A this season (294). Since full-backs are frequently expected to start attacks and assist offensive play, this skill set is especially important in modern football.
Though he is valued at £15 million by Transfermarkt, United may be able to get him for less given that he turns 31 in August. Di Lorenzo though older would give Dalot some useful experience and competition. With the money they have available for transfers, United would be able to address other important positions with this possible signing.

While the team works to bolster other areas of the club, Di Lorenzo’s addition would act as a stopgap guaranteeing depth and quality in the right-back position.
Adding a striker and strengthening the midfield are the club’s top priorities and Di Lorenzo’s signing for a fair price would free up funds to be used toward these goals.
By signing Di Lorenzo, United would be able to add an experienced defender who would meet their budgetary requirements and can start playing right away and offer stability while they work through their summer transfer plans.
His Serie A and international football experience and track record with Italy would be invaluable as United looks to build on their recent success and contend for major titles.
