Manchester United is gearing up to secure Everton center-back Jarrad Branthwaite in a potential £70 million deal, with a crucial deadline looming that could force Everton into a compromising position.
The Red Devils had their initial bid for the 21-year-old defender rejected, as Everton values Branthwaite closer to £70 million.
However, the financial situation at Everton might soon provide United with an advantageous opportunity.
Everton is facing a tough spot to stick to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
These rules say clubs can’t lose more than £105 million in three years, or £35 million a year.
Last season, Everton broke these money rules and got their points cut. They need to watch their spending closely now.
With the PSR deadline approaching on June 30, Everton may be compelled to accept a lower fee for Branthwaite to avoid further penalties.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Everton has not yet fully met their PSR requirements.
This financial trouble might push Everton to let go of top players, like Branthwaite, for cheap to match PSR rules.
Manchester United knows this and plans to make another offer for Branthwaite, aiming to use Everton’s money trouble to their advantage.

Recently, Everton managed to get closer to the PSR limit by selling Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa for approximately £10 million.
While this sale has helped, Everton might still need to offload another player to ensure full compliance with the PSR.
Football finance expert Dave Powell from Reach PLC has analyzed United’s financial standing and suggests that the club has some flexibility in their budget to make this deal happen.
According to Powell, United has around £31 million left within their PSR position for the current financial year ending on June 30.
If United were to sign Branthwaite for £80 million, they could amortize the fee over five years, which would amount to £16 million per year.
This structure would allow United to remain within their financial constraints while securing the defender.
Furthermore, any players sold by United could be booked immediately into their accounts, providing additional financial leeway.

This flexibility gives Manchester United the capability to increase their bid and potentially finalize the deal before the PSR deadline.
Manchester United is ready to use Everton’s financial problems to get Jarrad Branthwaite.
With the PSR cut-off near, Everton may have to take less money, letting United boost their back line with a bright young player.
