Manchester United face Greenwood dilemma as English star didn’t train for more than a year

As reported by ESPN, all accusations against Manchester United star Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The striker was facing accusations of attempted rape, coercive behaviour, and violence from his girlfriend.

The charges were dismissed on Thursday, according to the Greater Manchester Police (GMP). An investigation was launched last year after Greenwood was detained on January 31 on charges of rape and assault and again on February 1 on charges of sexual assault and uttering threats to kill.

However, due to the withdrawal of the key witness, the player is free from the allegations. United has also released a statement regarding the same.

The club will also inquire about the matter and will not let Greenwood train or play until and unless they have gone through the depths of the matter. United must now decide what to do with the player and whether or not to allow him to rejoin the team managed by Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman took over in the summer but has not managed Greenwood due to his suspension.

The player hasn’t worked out for his club in over a year, so if he were allowed to, he would probably need a few weeks or months to get back in shape before being given another chance to be selected.

Ten Hag may be questioned further on this subject on Friday, when he is scheduled to address the media ahead of United’s next Premier League game against Crystal Palace on Saturday. It remains to be seen whether he will add anything noteworthy to this matter.

Greenwood, who has one senior England cap, has played 129 times for the team in all competitions and has scored 35 goals.

The forward, who was born in Bradford, last appeared on January 22 of last year, when he spent 82 minutes on the right wing in a 1-0 victory over West Ham at home.

He qualified to be on a list of under-21 players eligible to play for the first team, but he was not included in their 25-man squad for the current Premier League season. He was left off their group stage roster for the Europa League.

Greenwood could be kept out of first-team action for some time until and unless the English striker gets back into his best shape. Until then, the club will continue to inquire about the internal matter of the Greenwood case.
