Manchester United are reportedly set to face increasing competition for signing Frenkie de Jong in this summer’s transfer window with Barcelona open to sanctioning a loan exit for the midfield maestro.
The Old Trafford giants have long pursued a move for De Jong’s signature but to no avail with the Holland international reluctant to make the move to the Red Devils who will not be competing in the Champions League this coming season.
According to the Spanish news outlet Sport, it is claimed that the Barca camp are looking to cut down on the wages paid to De Jong which would allow them to register new signings Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha under the rules of La Liga.
New United head coach Eric ten Hag remains keen on moving in for his former Ajax talent De Jong with the aim of adding to his midfield roster which could do with a fresh face from the transfer market before the next season kicks off.
The Red Devils, however, have local rivals Chelsea and German champions Bayern Munich joining the chase for the Barcelona midfielder with both clubs offering the lure of Champions League football to the Dutchman.
