Manchester United finally sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount

As reported by the club’s official website, Manchester United have made their first signing of the summer transfer window by securing the services of Mason Mount from Chelsea.

After facing two rejections of their earlier bids, United have now successfully reached an agreement with Chelsea to acquire Mount. The initial transfer fee is reported to be £55 million, with an additional £5 million potentially included in add-ons.

Following an injury that prevented him from participating in the latter part of the previous season, Mount is now anticipated to join his new teammates before the commencement of their pre-season tour.

Mount’s transfer from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford marks the first such move since Juan Mata’s departure in January 2014.

Similar to Mata’s departure, Mount’s exit from Chelsea elicits mixed reactions among the club’s supporters, despite his efforts to address the situation through a farewell message released recently.

Mount, who won the Chelsea Player of the Year award twice in his four seasons with the club, saw his time in West London conclude in a disappointing manner due to a contract negotiation deadlock.

Despite Mauricio Pochettino’s desire to retain him, discussions between Mount and Chelsea regarding a new contract did not progress, leading to United swooping in to secure his signature.

Having successfully completed the deal for Mount, United now shift their focus towards securing a new goalkeeper, as the future of David de Gea remains uncertain after his contract expired on June 30.

The prime target for United is Andre Onana, and an improved offer has reportedly been made for the Cameroonian international.

Additionally, United remains interested in acquiring a new striker and has been linked with moves for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.
