According to ESPN, Manchester United would be looking to grab the opportunity to sign Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
United is prepared to focus on other attacking alternatives before the transfer window closes in early September after pulling out a potential deal for Marko Arnautovic. The Red Devils have been now linked with former Premier League striker, Alvaro Morata.
The Spaniard’s move to Chelsea did not go as expected as he only scored 16 goals in 47 Premier League games before being shifted to Atletico.
However, Erik ten Hag’s team may be about to give the 29-year-old a second chance at playing in England football. A deal for Morata, though, would once more expose United’s shortcomings in recruiting over the past few years, which have caused them to fall far behind their two biggest rivals, Liverpool and Manchester City.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the Theatre of Dreams is still up in the air, but his prospects of landing a transfer away are also getting slimmer by the day, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he ended up staying at Old Trafford.
In the case that ten Hag absolutely needs a new striker, Morata is not what United needs right now or even in the long run as the Red Devils seek to build a strong squad. Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, and the injured Anthony Martial are all decent alternatives for United at the center-forward position.
The Red Devils would need a young attacker player with enough experience on board to lead the line. Lille’s Jonathan David was the alternative option and it remains to be seen whether the club pursues a move for the French star.
