Manchester United Have A Perfect Modern Full-back in Tyrell Malacia

As reported by the club’s official website, Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia has finally signed his contract as a Manchester United player.

The 22-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with an option to extend it for one more year.

The Red Devils have reportedly paid a fee of around £15m, with more than £2m to be offered through add-ons. The club was keeping a close eye on the former Feyenoord left-back throughout the summer and they have finally secured the move.

Tyrell Malacia is Erik Ten Hag’s first signing as a United manager, and the pacy left-back would follow Christian Eriksen through the doors of Old Trafford.

The newly signed player has been gaining a lot of attention from elite clubs due to his eye-catching performances for Feyenoord and the Dutch National Team. Erik Ten Hag grew in admiration for the young full-back after watching him play against his former club, Ajax, last season.

His duel against Antony in the Eredivisie may have excited the manager, but the rivalry between Feyenoord and Ajax would have apparently made that deal difficult to execute.

However, the Red Devil fans will be delighted by the Dutchman’s decision to make Malacia his first summer acquisition as the club continues to rebuild its defense.

What Qualities Would Tyrell Malacia Bring To Manchester United?

It has been no secret that the promising 22-year-old full-back has lit up the Dutch league with his raw pace and work ethic. It would be safe to say that Manchester United needs a new full-back to compete with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles.

Both the United defenders have been looking out of form in the past 12 months, and that has been a sign of concern for the fans. Reports suggest that Telles would be keen to join his former club, FC Porto.

If the Brazilian prefers to switch clubs, Erik Ten Hag would certainly need a young, dynamic full-back to take up the field.

It’s no secret that the left-back position has been an isolated one for Manchester United, with little attacking contribution coming from either Alex Telles or Luke Shaw. However, Tyrell Malacia’s ability to move forward and contribute to the attack would be a valuable asset for the club.

It would be interesting to see how the defender settles into a new club and the way he adapts to the new manager’s philosophies.

Alvaro Fernández is another talented left-back who would make his senior debut after his loan deal with Real Madrid comes to an end. The 19-year-old academy graduate has been putting in some impressive performances for the Red Devils’ under 23-side.

There would be a possibility that the Spanish left-back could be used as an understudy for Tyrell Malacia, and that would also justify Ten Hag’s quality of handing opportunities to young stars.
