According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Manchester United has been linked with a move for Italian midfielder Davide Frattesi.
The Red Devils sent scouts to keep an eye on the youngster in action last Sunday and it will be intriguing to see whether they decide to follow up on their interest in the player with a specific offer in the upcoming months.
The 23-year-old has established himself with Sassuolo in the Italian league and has pushed his way into Roberto Mancini’s plans for the national team as well.
In Serie A, Frattesi’s ability has caught the attention of many and it comes as no surprise that the top clubs from England are scouting the young midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur reportedly wanted to sign the player during the summer transfer window, and one can only speculate that they would have done well to nurture this gifted young Italian player under Antonio Conte. However, the north London club ultimately signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton.
Frattesi would be a great long-term addition to Manchester United, who could definitely use another top-notch defensive midfielder.
Despite acquiring Casemiro from Real Madrid at the beginning of the campaign, the Red Devils lack a strong backup. Erik ten Hag could definitely benefit from having additional choices available to him since the defensive midfield position has been United’s most vulnerable spot in the past.
Frattesi is more than just a defensive midfielder as also has a talent for contributing goals. In nine league games for Sassuolo this year, the midfielder has three goals to his name.
In addition to his defensive skills, he can play as a box-to-box midfielder. A team like United should be able to afford the midfielder’s rumoured €35 million price tag.
