According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United is considering signing Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez as a backup for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen is on United’s radar as they wait to sign a long-term successor after allowing Cristiano Ronaldo to leave last year. Osimhen has led Napoli’s promising Serie A title challenge this season with 17 goals in 18 games.
The Argentine international has been touted as a possible choice next summer. The 25-year-old has 15 goals in 31 games for Inter Milan this season.
There hasn’t been any discussion of a potential fee. The story does highlight Chelsea and Arsenal’s interest, indicating that United will have a tough time signing him given the level of competition for the Argentine striker.

Meanwhile, along with Martinez, manager Erik ten Hag is also keeping a close eye on England captain Harry Kane. Also, United would be willing to pay £17 million to sign Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent basis.
Following Christian Eriksen’s ankle injury in January, which sparked a deadline-day pursuit, the 28-year-old was sent on loan to Old Trafford.
Sabitzer has already made a name for himself after just three games, but the club is under no obligation to sign him permanently in the summer.
But because of his influence and early promise, United are willing to sign the Austrian, and Bayern Munich is reportedly open to offers.

This means that United would have a significant amount of funds available to sign a striker as they will be signing Sabitzer for a lesser price. United are expected to sign a young midfielder and a top-class striker this summer.
However, Osimhen’s links to Old Trafford look more promising than a move for Martinez.
