Manchester United were desperate for a central defender this summer, after the defensive woes of Maguire and Lindelof towards the end of last season. The start of this season has also been poor for the defensive duo, having leaked a lot of goal. It is now being reported by Manchester Evening News that the Red Devils have been handed a boost in their trail of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.
Earlier it was reported that Manchester United were linked to Alaba last summer transfer window. The veteran Austrian defender is one of the best in the world and is in the last year of his contract at Bayern Munich. It is very unlikely for Alaba to renew his contract and Bayern Munich’s president confirmed the same, in his talk with Blickpunkt Sport.
In his latest interview, when asked about Alaba, he said: “We submitted to David and his advisor some time ago what we think was a very good offer, he answer was that the offer was still unsatisfactory and we should think about it again. We then decided to take the offer completely off the table. This means there is no longer an offer.”
Manchester United need somebody of the calibre of David Alaba as his skill set and experience will help United’s defence massively. The United board should be all over such a deal and try to bring Alaba to Old Trafford to tighten things up in defence. There is no doubt that his wages will be high, but he is at the peak of his peak and will offer his best for a couple of years at least.
