According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United has tentative plans to offload four defenders during the summer transfer season.
The English giants went on their best-ever spending binge last summer. After the positive results under Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag, more money may be spent in the forthcoming transfer window.
The club will also need to make money off of players to avoid Financial Fair Play penalties, and there might be several exits at the end of the season.
As per the report, Alex Telles and Eric Bailly are reportedly going to be sold. Harry Maguire and Brandon Williams might potentially leave at the end of the season due to a lack of game time.
The Red Devils will probably prioritise adding a new striker, and it has been said that Spurs striker Harry Kane is Ten Hag’s top target. However, they would need to splash more than £100 million in order to land the English star in the upcoming transfer window.
As for now, a striker is the biggest priority followed by a centre-back and a midfielder. If Maguire leaves, Ten Hag might chase another young defender.
The club may decide to sign a new versatile right-back as well. Despite Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s brief comeback this season, the United manager seems determined to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong. We won’t be shocked if Telles, Bailly, and Maguire leave the squad before the start of the new season.
Williams’ versatility allows him to be a valuable player for the Red Devils. However, given the fierce competition and the good loan performances of Alvaro Fernandez and Ethan Laird, United may decide to offload Williams in order to obtain a respectable transfer fee.
