Manchester United have the perfect opportunity to sign free-agent Isco in January

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Christian Eriksen’s injury against Reading on Saturday night leaves Manchester United with a shortage of two midfielders.

Donny van de Beek, who is out for the rest of the season, must already make due without the Red Devils. And with the transfer window still open and Erik ten Hag in need of a replacement, Isco might be a compelling option.

Eriksen joined United from Brentford in the summer, when he was signed by the club. The Danish international has been in excellent form since then, contributing nine assists across all competitions.

But on Saturday night, United suffered a setback when the midfielder was compelled to miss the win over Reading. Eriksen is currently scheduled for a scan as the Red Devils wait for the findings to understand the full extent of the injury.

Given Youri Tielemans’ contractual status, there have been suggestions for United to pursue the Leicester City player. Only six months remain on the player’s contract at the King Power Stadium, and all indications are that he will leave as a free agent in the summer.

Isco would be a fascinating alternative for United to take into account. They were interested in the player during the 2013 summer transfer window, but Real Madrid ultimately succeeded in tying him to a new contract.

Isco continued to be a tremendous asset at the Bernabeu, helping Los Blancos win five Champions League championships.
The 30-year-old made the decision to leave and seek a fresh opportunity in Sevilla at the conclusion of the last season.

However, Isco’s agreement with the team was later cancelled last month, making him a free agent. Undoubtedly, his stock has dropped recently. Isco would be a wise addition to United if they could help him regain his best form. If Eriksen is out for the remainder of the season, the Red Devils most definitely need creative reinforcements.

Despite having his uses, Fred has struggled to maintain consistency for nearly five years at Old Trafford. Scott McTominay is also not up to the mark.

Even though United has the option of calling Hannibal Mejbri back, there is a feeling that they would want the 20-year-old to finish the season at Birmingham.
