As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United has been penalised by the Football Association for allegedly failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly manner in the closing moments of Saturday’s match against Chelsea.
Graham Potter’s men were awarded a penalty just before the 90th minute, with Scott McTominay penalised for pulling substitute striker Armando Broja to the ground.
Many United players objected to referee Stuart Attwell, who promptly awarded the penalty. As a result of their actions, the 20-time English champions have been charged by the FA.
The statement released by the association read:
“Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA rule E20.1 after its fixture versus Chelsea FC on Saturday 22 October in the Premier League.”
”Manchester United FC allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 84th minute, and the club has until Friday 28 October 2022 to provide a response.”
At Stamford Bridge, Jorginho’s late penalty looked to be giving Chelsea the victory, but Casemiro scored a dramatic equaliser in the dying minute of the match.
Since the Manchester derby, United has won twice—against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur—drawn once with Newcastle, and now has eight points from four league games. The 20-time English champions are currently focused on the Europa League, where they will face Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday night at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils will then return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon against West Ham United. Before the league season ends for the World Cup, they will also play Aston Villa and Fulham.
