Spanish football expert Dermot Corrigan has admitted that it will be very unlikely for Manchester United to negotiate a deal with Atletico Madrid over Saul Nigez, but nothing is impossible.
Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of French midfielder Paul Pogba as the World Cup winner was linked with a move away from Old Trafford. The 26-year-old has expressed his desire to join Real Madrid in the summer and Manchester United are in the hunt to find a suitable replacement for Pogba.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been keeping tabs on a few top quality midfielders around the European continent and Atletico Madrid’s Saul Nigez was also linked with a move to join the red half of Manchester.
The 24-year-old Spanish star has become a constant presence in Diego Simeone’s side over the past few seasons and has taken his game to new levels. Saul came through the ranks at Atletico Madrid and with the departure of Rodri to Manchester City in the summer, the Rojiblancos might not allow another key midfielder to leave the Wanda Metropolitano.
However, while speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast Dermot Corrigan stated that never say never over a deal, “I think it’s really, really unlikely at this stage, With Atletico you can never say never but I was speaking to somebody very close to Saul yesterday who just told me there’s nothing happening.”
The Spaniard also explained, “He’s always involved in transfer speculation and he would be a superb signing for Manchester United He’s a great player and I can see him fitting in really, really well at United. Whether Pogba goes or not I think he would be a fantastic signing for United. But I was told there’s no chance, he’s going to stay Atletico. Atletico has no intention of letting him go.”
