According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are in a favourable position to sign Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana ahead of rivals Chelsea.
While David de Gea is United’s first-choice goalkeeper, his future as the starting goalkeeper is uncertain. The Spanish veteran is close to signing a long-term deal, but manager Erik Ten Hag has not guaranteed his position in the starting XI.
Therefore, United might want to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer, and Onana could be a suitable candidate. Chelsea is also interested in the Cameroonian keeper, but United has the advantage.
The Inter Milan star had an impressive debut season, keeping 20 clean sheets in 43 appearances and showcasing excellent distribution skills and sweeper-keeper abilities.

Onana showcased his involvement in Inter Milan’s play with an impressive average of 47 touches per game in Serie A last season.
He also displayed his passing ability by completing around 30 passes per match with nearly 80 per cent accuracy.
Currently valued at €60 million by Inter, the Red Devils have a better chance of securing his signature compared to Chelsea for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, Onana shares a good relationship with manager Erik ten Hag, having previously worked together at Ajax for four years. A reunion with Ten Hag could be an enticing prospect for the Cameroonian goalkeeper.

United’s advantage of offering Champions League football is another appealing factor over Chelsea. Following Inter’s loss in the Champions League final, Onana said he would accept the club’s decision.
Therefore, United should make a move for the keeper in our opinion.
