As reported by the Mirror, Manchester United is moving closer to signing Antony as his agent has been in England for dealing with the negotiations.
Erik ten Hag is eager to sign his former player, and a fee of £68 million has been proposed for the 22-year-old international from Brazil. Ajax appeared to sign Portuguese attacker Francisco Conceicao as a direct replacement for Antony earlier this week, and this gave United a significant boost.
The board must choose whether to spend additional money to match Ajax’s asking price for Antony after their $51 million bid was rejected. The Red Devils will meet with one of Antony’s agents in order to negotiate personal terms.
Ten Hag would now target an attacker before the transfer window ends. Tyrell Malacia, a left-back who joined from Feyenoord, was the first player to enter the club during the Dutchman’s tenure.
This summer, ten Hag has already turned to his former club by agreeing to a deal for versatile defender Lisandro Martinez. Additionally, Christian Eriksen has also joined for free and De Jong would soon follow suit.
As Cristiano Ronaldo continues to hunt for a move away from Old Trafford despite the fact that his alternatives are becoming more and more limited by the day, the need for a new face in the attack may get even more urgent in the coming weeks.
