February 2024: Manchester United Injury Update And Return Dates

The Red Devils’ have had a miserable week for injuries with two key players ruled out for some time and third at the brink of joining them.

Casemiro and Hojlund celebrating

Rasmus Hojlund has been sidelined for “two to three weeks” after picking up a muscle injury, after Luke Shaw got out of the team because of his own muscle injury.

After Saturday’s home loss against Fulham, Casemiro was taken for scans after his head clash against them. Erik now has about eight first-team players sidelined due to injury.

Casemiro

Casemiro is set to be taken for further tests after his head clash against Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed during Saturday’s home loss.

“I don’t know if it’s concussion but it’s definitely head to head,” Ten Hag said after the game, “I actually don’t know [the issue] but he had to come off. He had to come off so we have to speak with the doctor, and the medical team, to see how he’s doing.”

“He couldn’t continue the game. We have all seen that. We had to take him off and, hopefully, he’s better by tomorrow.”

Rasmus Hojlund

The forward could be out of the first team until after next month’s international break after picking up a muscle injury.

It has come as a huge blow for Red Devils because he was showing a great run of form by scoring in six consecutive games.

Rasmus Hojlund

“It’s a small injury, two to three weeks, that’s what happened,” Ten Hag told reporters. “That is the risk playing high intensity, training; it’s not a big injury, but he has to wait now for two to three weeks.”

Luke Shaw

United left-back could be out of the first team until the end of the season, this has put his involvement with England National team in doubt with Euro 2024 fast approaching.

Luke Shaw was substituted at half time against Aston Villa but few days later it was announced that he was fit to play against Luton Town only to get substituted again due to injury at half time again.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Ten Hag was unsure over the extent of the injury but said, “Clearly, when you come off, it doesn’t look great.”

United are yet to release a statement regarding the extent of Luke Shaw’s injury but this week they have confirmed that the defender will be sidelined for a long period of time.

“Luke Shaw has sustained a muscle injury and will be out for an extended period,” it read. “Further assessment is still needed to determine the severity but we expect him to be absent for a few months.”
