Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly eager to get their hands on Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix and will use all of their negotiating power to try to sign the 22-year-old international Portuguese player.
Given that the Portuguese international has fallen short of expectations, Felix’s immediate future at Atletico Madrid is shrouded in uncertainty. After shelling out a staggering nine-figure price for the player, Los Rojiblancos had expected a long-term contract for the player.
However, the 22-year-old’s four-year contract has been a complete letdown, and he has not yet scored a goal this season. The club’s board has had enough and is hoping for a peaceful resolution in January.
According to a report by the Spanish publication Fichajes, Manchester United may be looking to add another attacker and may try to sign one of the most talented young players. A far lesser cost might be agreed upon because Atletico Madrid wouldn’t be trying to recuperate the money they paid to Benfica for his services.
Additionally, Cristiano Ronaldo might try to leave in January in order to play in the UEFA Champions League. And his fellow countryman might be his eventual replacement.
With Felix joining players like Jadon Sancho and Antony in Erik ten Hag’s fascinating front-three, Manchester United is developing a youthful core for the future.
Chelsea are also considering options to bolster their squad, and Joao Felix might be one of them. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner were allowed to leave, and they’ll be looking for another attacking player in January.
The blues has a clear road in the race to sign Felix because Manchester United are unlikely to go above a specific budget in the summer transfer window.
