According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United is interested in signing Atalanta attacker Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
The Red Devils signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley last month and the Dutch striker has been a regular player upfront in Anthony Martial’s absence
The club is expected to chase a young striker when the transfer window reopens. But, it is unlikely that the 30-year-old would be signed on a permanent basis.
Despite United’s recent interest in Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos and Napoli poacher Victor Osimhen, Dutch outlet Tipsbladet reports that United is very keen on signing Hojlund. With so many clubs from all across Europe competing for his signature, there is still a “far way to go” before a move can be agreed upon.
The Danish striker, who is presently valued at €50 million by Atalanta, is being monitored by Juventus, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Napoli, and Arsenal. In late August, the 20-year-old moved from Sturm Graz to Atalanta. In his 12 appearances prior to the World Cup, he only made one goal and one assist.
Currently, he has been in excellent shape since the beginning of the year. In his last 10 games, Hojlund has scored six goals and provided one assist, from eight starts.
He has thus begun to demonstrate his full ability in Serie A. Because he is left-footed, well-built, and blessed with pace, his playing style can be compared to Erling Haaland’s.
If United are serious about signing him, they might need to begin talks now because there might be fierce competition for his services at the end of the season.
Manager Erik ten Hag may be leaning towards developing young players rather than making high-profile acquisitions if he chooses to sign Hojlund over Osimhen in the summer transfer window.
