Manchester United interested in signing Chelsea star Mason Mount

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United have emerged as a surprise contender to sign Chelsea star Mason Mount at the end of the current campaign.

The 24-year-old has just 16 months remaining in his contract with the Blues, and the club has yet to convince him to put pen to paper on an extension.

Thus, a lot of rumours regarding a potential sale have emerged in recent days, and United is one of the teams interested in signing him. In addition to United, the English midfielder has also been linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester City.

Mount has been a tremendous player for the Premier League giants this season. In 192 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists.

The attacking midfielder, who is valued at €75 million, can provide quality competition to Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has been exceptional since his move from Sporting Lisbon. He has been an unchallenged starter without a history of injuries and has been very consistent with his performances.

Thus, United will think twice before signing a player who can only be placed on the bench. Instead, United might concentrate on acquiring a central midfielder who can also play as the number 10.

Mount has occasionally played in a three-man midfield for Chelsea, but he is not the most productive player and has a tendency to let the Blues down in crucial matches.

Jude Bellingham would be the ideal midfield addition for United since he combines the correct mix of offence and defence. If Bellingham isn’t persuaded to sign a new deal by the summer, he might be made available for €100 million.
