Manchester United interested in signing PSG midfielder Marco Verratti

Manchester United have reportedly expressed interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti, as stated in the French publication L’Equipe (h/t the Manchester Evening News).

This development follows United’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, marking the second consecutive game in which they struggled to assert control in the midfield.

Gary Neville has urged United to sign a new defensive midfielder to provide support to Casemiro. According to L’Equipe, both United and Bayern Munich are exploring the possibility of signing Verratti.

Verratti, who has spent 11 years at PSG, has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Luis Enrique. He is available for the right transfer fee before the deadline.

While the 30-year-old has agreed to personal terms with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, they have yet to finalize a transfer fee with PSG for the Euro 2020 winner.

Therefore, L’Equipe suggests that United could potentially make a late move for Verratti.

Man United currently have an excellent defensive midfielder in Casemiro, but he’s had a slow start to the season and needs to improve in the upcoming matches.

In our opinion, the club requires a strong competitor who can either replace him or play alongside him. While Verratti has extensive experience with over 400 appearances for PSG, United should consider other options.

The Italian star is approaching 31 years of age and wouldn’t be a long-term signing.

Additionally, PSG are unlikely to let him go for a low price, having rejected a £26 million offer from Al-Hilal earlier this summer. They are reportedly looking for £51 million to consider his departure this summer.

Verratti could serve as a good short-term solution for United, but we personally prefer the club to pursue Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina, who is nearly four years younger than the Italian.

Although Amrabat might not be as tough in tackling as Verratti, he excels in distribution and ball control, making him an ideal player to partner with Casemiro in midfield.
