Manchester United join the race to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have joined the race to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie this summer.

The 24-year-old, who is typically a central midfielder but can also play on the right flank or in a holding role, is known for his hard-pressing style of play.

He has played for Juventus in 89 games, 14 of which have come up this season. It appears that the Old Trafford board may be interested in signing him next summer.

Along with United, a number of Premier League teams, as well as European giants like Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, are showing interest in McKennie. Although Erik ten Has was successful in signing Casemiro, one could argue that United still lacks a good number of holding and central midfield options.

McKennie has experience playing in Germany and Italy and has played in a variety of positions during his career, from right-back to centre-forward.

He may offer coverage in a variety of positions, which might be extremely helpful in the second half of the season when United might still be taking part in four different competitions. Currently, Ten Hag has preferred to use Fred or Scott Mctominay alongside Casemiro. He has also used Christian Eriksen as an attacking option alongside Casemiro. But the manager may still prefer to have another top defensive midfielder to increase the squad’s depth.

Frenkie de Jong was previously linked to United and his age would be the upper hand when compared to other targets.
