According to the Mexican publication W Deportes, Manchester United is the team most interested in signing Feyenoord attacker Santiago Gimenez this summer.
Given Anthony Martial’s fitness concerns throughout the season, the English giants are expected to look for a new striker before the season ends.
United have been linked with several high-profile players including Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane but reports suggest that the club are also keeping an eye on Gimenez’s development.
The Mexican attacker made his Feyenoord debut last season after moving from Cruz Azul. Gimenez had a spectacular debut season in which he scored 18 goals and provided four assists in 37 appearances.
According to Deportes, United has made “initial contact” with the player’s agent regarding a transfer in addition to watching the player in action.
Brighton & Hove Albion are also keeping an eye on the striker, although United are the team that is particularly interested in signing him ahead of their league rivals. A €20 million release clause has bee included in his contract.
Prior to joining Feyenoord, the 21-year-old was a player who wasn’t very well-known. The current season has undoubtedly helped him improve his reputation.
The 21-year-old’s season with Feyenoord got off to a poor start, but since the World Cup campaign, his gameplay has been fairly good with frequent goal contributions.
In the most recent game against Ajax, he was apparently being watched by the Red Devils, and it now seems that they are in talks with his team about a potential summer transfer.
We believe that United should target two forwards in the upcoming transfer window, and Martial might even be put up for sale at the end of the season. The management should aim for a star striker like Kane or Victor Osimhen. However, Gimenez would be a useful backup to have on hand.
Similar tactics have helped Manchester City achieve great success this season. Erling Braut Haaland has served as the frontline leader, with Julian Alvarez serving as his backup.
United should add more than one striker during the summer transfer window if they intend to truly compete for the Premier League title the following season.
