Manchester United keen to add a new right-back before the deadline day

Manchester United have been busy this summer as they are bracing themselves for more signings in the coming days. Until now, the board has signed three-four players and is looking to add a few more.

Ajax’s Antony is the next one who could move to Old Trafford but Ten Hag would want to club to bolster another position that is exploited quite often. The right-back spot lacks competition even after having two players in that position.

Aaron Wan Bissaka’s lack of attacking output could be a sign of concern and the Dutch manager has preferred to bench him rather than start him on regular basis. The club is open to selling him with his former club, Crystal Palace showing interest in the player.

The English defender did play a small part against Liverpool but that wouldn’t change his stance in the team. Ten Hag has Diogo Dalot as a more reliable right-back but the Portuguese have failed to show consistency in the league.

In the first two games of the season, the player performed miserably but he did show his capability against Liverpool. But looking at the current squad situation, it seems that the board will be happy to add more competition to the right-back spot.

United are already keeping close tabs on a number of defenders. As Monaco’s Vanderson has been the recent player to be linked with a move to the theatre of dreams. However, the most closely monitored player is Barcelona’s Sergino Dest.

Ten Hag would love to reunite with his former player but the Dutch star wants to stay in Barcelona and fight for his place. Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries is deemed to be too costly for the club and the fact that the player joined Inter Milan just a year ago, makes the deal even more complicated.

According to the Times, Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Meunier is another realistic target for the Reds but the German club has made it clear that they don’t want to sell their star asset. The club still has options in the market but may be forced to sign a cheaper alternative if they splash a huge amount of cash in signing Antony.

Ten Hag might also be forced to keep Brandon Williams to provide cover to Dalot and that would put off any chances for the young star to leave on loan. Selling Wan-Bissaka and buying a new right-back would make sense but any interested team should pay a big amount to sign the English star.

After all, United will need to recoup the € 50 million they paid to sign him from Crystal Palace. It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils prefer to hunt for a cheaper alternative in the current market or compromise with their present set of players.
