Manchester United keeping a close eye on Real Valladolid star Ivan Fresneda

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Real Valladolid full-back Ivan Fresneda as they hunt for a new right-back this summer.

The 18-year-old was comparatively unknown before the 2022–2023 season got underway as he had not yet participated in a La Liga match.

However, after making a name for himself in the Valladolid senior team since September, the teenager became one of the most sought-after players in January. The right-back has already made seven starts and three substitute appearances in Spain’s top division despite not turning 19 until September.

Due to this, Newcastle United and clubs like Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund were keeping an eye on Fresneda last year. However, by the end of the previous month, up to 30 clubs were interested in signing the player.

Fresneda and his team ultimately decided that he should stay at Estadio Jose Zorrilla for the remainder of the season because of his long contract. Nevertheless, United is currently trying to jump the line. In the coming months, the Red Devils will keep a close eye on Fresneda’s progress as his club tries to stay out of the La Liga relegation zone.

Erik ten Hag is looking for a new defender, even though Aaron Wan-Bissaka has recently started to compete directly with Diogo Dalot. The former was widely regarded as the top candidate in that position prior to the World Cup, but an injury he sustained while playing for Portugal in the World Cup offered Wan-Bissaka a chance to shine in his absence.

The 25-year-old has now made 11 starts and three substitute appearances for United this season, despite rumours that he may be sold in the future.

There is still a chance that United will try to sign Fresneda and let him grow elsewhere before bringing him permanently to Old Trafford.
